The Writing Process

The five-step process by which writers build well developed written responses to topics, questions or prompts is as follows:

    1. Pre-write/Organization
    2. First Draft
    3. Edit with Revision
    4. Second Draft/Edit
    5. Publication of the Final Composition
The steps can be repeated as necessary and should involve individual as well as guided analysis.  For formal essays that are assigned over time, you will complete one step at a time at different settings.  For time writings, or test writing (such as the Writing SOL), you complete the entire process in one setting.
