Direct Writing Practice Prompts

This part of the program offers you the opportunity to practice directly with released Writing prompts from past End-of-Course SOL tests.  According to the Virginia Department of Education, “In the direct writing component, students write a composition about a topic presented to them in a writing prompt. The writing prompt page also includes a “Checklist for Writers” that lists points for students to keep in mind as they write. Writing compositions are scored in each of the domains:
• Composing
• Written Expression
• Usage/Mechanics”

Remember to follow the steps outlined in the tutorial:
         - Annotate the Prompt
         - Choose a Topic
         - Write a Thesis Statement
         - Outline the Evidence
         - Draft the Essay:
- The Introduction
                  - The Topic Sentences
                  - The Body Paragraphs
                  - The Conclusion
         - Edit for written expression, usage and mechanics
