1/3/08 - PTSA Announcement

KHS Parents,

The Hampton City Council is hosting a series of Community Budget Forums to seek citizen input into the Fiscal Year 2008-2009 budget. The forums include an overview of major City services, revenues, and the economics underlying the revenues. Group discussions will follow and a survey will be taken. This is an excellent opportunity for all of you to have an opportunity to express your priorities and ideas to city officials.

The KHS PTA would like to have a STRONG presence at each of these meetings to ensure city officials take school funding seriously.  PLEASE consider attending one of these meetings and be sure to stress the importance of funding for school salaries to ensure we are able to retain and attract the most talented teachers & administrators, as well as funding for new buildings and maintenance.

If you can attend more than one, please see the list on the web-site to choose the session which has the lowest PTA representation.  Please visit the city PTA website at http://members.cox.net/hamptoncitypta/ and click to RSVP.  To ensure maximum representation at each meeting, this site will maintain a list of attendees for each session.

DATES of MEETINGS:

Tuesday, January 15
Jones Magnet Middle School
1819 Nickerson Blvd
7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Thursday, January 17
West Hampton Community Center
1638 Briarfield Rd
7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Saturday, January 19

THANKS so much for your support and I look forward to seeing you at one of these sessions!

Barbara Good
PTSA President

October Announcements

10/31/07 - Winter Sports Schedule

The Winter Sports Schedule is ready. Download it here.

10/24/07 - Attention Parents and Students

The recent media coverage has made us all aware of skin infections caused by Staphyloccus Aureus, commonly called Staph, and its antibiotic-resistant form known as MRSA. Mr. Baker sent a ConnectEd message home to parents on 10/23, to provide families with updated information regarding how this has affected Kecoughtan High School. During the afternoon of 10/23, we received confirmation of one case of MRSA in our school. The
case is being followed closely and has been treated and cleared by the physician and the Hampton Health Department to return to school.

Over a week ago, following the increased media attention, Hampton City Schools responded by increasing its cleaning efforts especially in locker rooms, weight rooms, restrooms and any frequently touched surfaces.
Hampton City Schools responded by sending an informational letter home through all students, increasing contact with the Hampton Health Department and the medical community, providing employee email updates,
and conferring with the Physical Education and Custodial departments. In addition, the custodial staff conducted an intensive cleansing of all lockers in the locker room.

To protect your family, the key ways to prevent the spread of Staph infections is through frequent and thorough hand washing and proper wound care.

We want to assure you that Kecoughtan High School is responding proactively to this health situation. Any suspected cases are being closely followed and medical notes are required prior to a student’s return to school.
If you have any questions, please contact the Hampton Health Department at 315-3772 or Hampton City Schools Health Services at 727-2363.
